By negotiating this agreement, IHG has expanded its presence in the South and West Asian luxury and leisure market, while introducing two of its worldwide brands—InterContinental and Hotel Indigo—to Nepal's tourism sector and add over 500 rooms to its holdings.

The new guest houses are now being built and will open in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal, during the next one to four years.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Indigo, two of IHG's top brands in the luxury and leisure segments, will be making their Nepal debuts as a result of these agreements, as noted by Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“We are delighted to introduce two of our leading brands from the luxury and lifestyle portfolio, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Indigo, to Nepal. The signing of four new hotels in partnership with the esteemed and well- known Shangri-La Hotel & Resort Group of Nepal is testament to the trust and love for our brands from our owners as well as guests, and we are proud to grow our footprint in the South-West Asia region to bring our offering to new markets. The strategic location of all four hotels in different key tourism destinations of Nepal provide us with a great opportunity to offer world-class hospitality and cater to the demands of our guests", Jain added.

As explained further, the two brands have enjoyed tremendous popularity in key markets across the wider EMEAA area, while standing in the vanguard of Nepal's thriving hospitality industry. The brands are expected to be the first option of owners seeking to diversify their luxury and lifestyle hotel holdings, with the final goal of offering unforgettable stays for their honourable guests.

Prasidha B. Panday, Chairman of the Shangri-La Hotel & Resort Group, also noted with the occasion:

“We are pleased to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts for the debut of the two renowned brands, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Indigo, in Nepal. We are confident that our partnership with IHG to open four new hotels will help us offer world-class hospitality to guests, at a time when travel to Nepal has increased exponentially. All new hotels will be located in top tourism hubs, and we expect to benefit from the strength and scale of IHG’s global systems, technology and a strong loyalty programme”.

So which are the four new hotels?

Hotel Indigo Pokhara

Hotel Indigo Pokhara's prime location in Gharipatan, a bustling commercial and residential district, positions it to meet the needs of an increasing number of business and leisure travellers to the city. The 100-room hotel will include amenities including a gift shop, spa, club lounge, business centre, swimming pool, and a variety of recreational opportunities. The hotel will include a ballroom, a boardroom, and two conference rooms to accommodate the needs of meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. A Neighbourhood café, speciality restaurant, lobby salon and bar will all be available for visitors to enjoy throughout their stay.

The hotel's convenient location—both near the airport and the heart of Pokhara—means it will be a favourite with leisure travellers and small groups. Pokhara, Nepal's tourist centre, is an ideal location for the new hotel since it serves as a starting off point for a wide variety of extreme sports including bungee jumping, parasailing, and even micro flying.

InterContinental Kathmandu Lazimpat

The new property will be reconstructed on the same location as the Shangri-la Kathmandu hotel, one of the most famous hotels of Nepal, in the heart of the capital city of Kathmandu. The hotel is set in a prominent neighbourhood, adjacent to a number of diplomatic missions, conveniently located about 15 minutes from Tribhuvan International Airport and within easy walking distance of the city's heart. This five-star hotel will include 225 rooms, an all-day eatery, a speciality restaurant, a lobby area, a bar and many conference facilities, including a banquet hall. Guests will be able to relax at the hotel's swimming pool, club lounge, fitness facility, spa, indoor/outdoor leisure spaces and retail shop.

Several embassies may also be found in this bustling and important section of the capital city, which is located on Lazimpat Road. The hotel is meant to satisfy the needs of both holidaymakers and business travellers.

InterContinental Pokhara Begnas Lake

The hotel will provide guests a variety of eating and drinking choices, as well as a convenient location. In addition to its pool and other indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, the InterContinental Pokhara Begnas Lake will offer guests a spa, a fitness club, a club lounge, a business centre, and a variety of shopping and dining options. The property is located within 20 minutes from Pokhara International Airport, which can be reached by the nearby national highway. The hotel will be happy to accommodate guests travelling in small groups, as well as lone tourists, couples, and business visitors.

InterContinental Resort Chitwan

The resort has a prime position in the heart of Mehgauli Village, a bustling hub for visitors to the area. The luxury hotel will include 80 rooms and a variety of amenities, including a wide range of eating options (including a speciality restaurant), a lobby area, bars, a fitness club, a spa, a business centre, multiple recreational areas, a swimming pool, and several event and gathering facilities. Chitwan National Park is home to lush forests and grassy plains, and the InterContinental Resort Chitan, which is located about an hour from Bharatpur's city centre and the international airport, was especially designed to cater to recreational tourists.

With IHG's new mobile app and cutting-edge technology, guests at all four hotels can take advantage of IHG's industry-leading loyalty programme, IHG One Rewards.

The International Hotel Group (IHG)® presently operates 47 hotels under five brands, while another 53 are scheduled to launch over the next couple of years.
