Iberia, Repsol, and Inditex Collaborate to Use Sustainable Aviation Fuel for Cargo Transport

Iberia and Repsol have entered into an agreement with Inditex to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), constituting 5% of the fuel used by Iberia for transporting Inditex merchandise. This partnership marks a significant advancement in the decarbonization efforts of the aviation sector.

“This new alliance with Iberia and Inditex reinforces our commitment to 100% renewable fuels as a lever for the decarbonization of the transport sector. The first large-scale production of 100% renewable fuels in Cartagena was a milestone in our strategy,” said Carlos Suárez, Repsol’s Director of International Aviation.

Significant Emission Reductions

The SAF supplied by Repsol, to be used at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, will reduce emissions by over 80% compared to traditional mineral kerosene. This initiative represents a crucial step towards achieving the decarbonization objectives set by Iberia, Repsol, and Inditex.

Certified and Compliant Fuel

The SAF provided is certified and complies with the standards of Annex IX Part B of the Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001 II of the European Union. This certification ensures that the fuel meets stringent environmental criteria and contributes effectively to sustainability goals.
