Following the category 5 hurricane, the hospitality industry in the region is also shaken.

 

The damages caused by the Hurricane Irma have been categorized by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation as follows:

Electricity in Antigua was down – the situation was solved, as the capital, St. John, was reconnected to the power network. Moreover, the airport here was also reopened.

In Barbuda, one person was killed and 90 per cent of the residences were devastated. The hotel infrastructure is also affected, but the damages are minimal.

The Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla is currently open for charters and emergency flights. Aid supplies from the UK is currently being distributed on the island.

Likewise, the Bahamas restored its flights, as well as the Port of Nassau.

On the other hand, the destruction is at a maximum level in the British Virgin Islands, with power and communication outages, as well as severe building damages. The government here started a humanitarian relief campaign, also supported by the authorities in the United Kingdom.
