Hilton Hotel in Nairobi to end service after 53 years in the business

Nevertheless, Hilton Hotels, with 40.57 per cent of shares owned by the government, will continue service in Kenya with the company’s other brands.
An iconic presence for Nairobi’s tourism industry, the hotel was also affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, just like countless facilities and restaurants in the hospitality business across the world.
The closing of the Hilton Hotel will leave behind a big job gap across hospitality workers and is expected to interfere with the luxury hospitality operations across all Kenya.
"The Hilton Hotel is not only about tourism, it is also about the history of Nairobi. Actually when you see Nairobi without the photo of the Hilton Hotel, without the KICC (Kenyatta International Convention Centre), the Parliament buildings, actually that is not Nairobi", commented local resident Moses Otieno.
As in other parts of the world the sector thrives, Africa’s tourism industry proves to be challenging, with players struggling to find new strategies to stay afloat and gain customer demand.
The end of operations for the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi follows the closure of famous Intercontinental Hotel two years ago.
