GWR Prepares for Rugby Crowds with Extra Trains for Six Nations Clash

In anticipation of the high demand from rugby fans attending the Wales vs France Six Nations match, Great Western Railway (GWR) has announced a significant increase in train services. A total of 52 additional trains, providing more than 27,000 extra seats, will facilitate travel to and from the Principality Stadium for the eagerly awaited fixture.

To manage the expected surge in passengers after the game, GWR has arranged a queueing system outside Cardiff Central station, advising fans to allocate ample time for boarding trains safely.

The transport plan includes 27 trains to Cardiff before the 3:00 PM kickoff and another 25 to assist fans in returning home. This operational strategy follows a similar arrangement successfully implemented for the Wales vs Scotland game, with eastbound travelers towards Newport directed to queue at the square in front of Cardiff Central station.

Richard Rowland, GWR Operations Director, emphasized the importance of planning and patience, "We're committed to supporting fans traveling to the Principality Stadium but remind everyone that trains around game time will be very busy. A queuing system will ensure safe boarding."

Adam Terry, Transport for Wales Head of Performance, also encouraged fans to plan their journeys carefully and stay updated using the company’s website or mobile app. He thanked customers for their patience and cooperation during what promises to be a busy period for the rail network.

Additionally, GWR is introducing five extra services before the match, adding approximately 2,600 seats, and another five after, providing around 3,000 additional seats to ensure fans can get home smoothly after the game.

This enhanced service underlines GWR's commitment to facilitating safe and efficient travel for rugby supporters, ensuring a memorable match day experience for the Wales vs France Six Nations showdown.
