Global Travel Reaches 84% of Pre-Pandemic High

From January through July of 2023, the UN World Tourism Organization reported that international tourism has recovered to 84% of its pre-pandemic level.
It's estimated that 700 million people went abroad as tourists.
Between January and July, foreign tourist demand was 20% higher in the Middle East than in any other area.
In some locations, the population has not returned to pre-pandemic levels. According to the UNWTO, Europe reached 91% as a result of robust demand within the area as well as tourism from the United States. The percentage in Africa was 92%, while in the Americas it was 87%.
The Asia-Pacific region's 61% recovery lags well behind that of other areas. It wasn't until the latter half of 2022 or late this year that several regional destinations and sourcing markets, such as China, became accessible to tourists.
Global travel is predicted by UNWTO to recover to between 80% and 95% of its pre-pandemic level by the year's end, thanks to accumulating demand and improved air service in the Asia-Pacific region. Because of the economy's current state, progress toward global tourism recovery may be slowed considerably. The United Nations World Tourism Organization noted that increasing oil prices and persistent inflation have also contributed to price increases in transportation and lodging.
