Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 3 Opens April 2026

Airlines & Airports

Frankfurt Airport’s long-anticipated Terminal 3 will officially open on April 22, 2026, airport operator Fraport AG confirmed. The new terminal has cleared all major regulatory inspections, including fire safety, marking a key milestone toward full operational readiness.

“This is a very special moment,” said Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte. “We broke ground ten years ago, and now we’re about to welcome passengers into one of Europe’s most advanced terminals.”

With construction officially concluded, the final phase involves installing advanced security systems, finishing commercial areas, and testing the baggage handling system. A full trial run involving 8,000 volunteer test passengers will take place across 21 days between January and April 2026.

Terminal 3 will initially include Piers G, H, and J, designed to handle up to 19 million passengers annually. Despite global supply disruptions, the pandemic, and the war in Ukraine, the project stayed on time and within budget.

“This is a huge achievement,” said Harald Rohr, technical director of Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH, the subsidiary overseeing construction.

Once open, Terminal 3 will serve both Schengen and non-Schengen routes. Airlines currently based in Terminal 2 will move to the new terminal in phases from mid-April through early June.
