Formentor access restrictions return for summer 2026 in Mallorca

Destinations & Tourism

Authorities in Mallorca will once again restrict vehicle access to Cap de Formentor during the summer of 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce traffic congestion and protect the natural environment.

he restrictions will be in place from May 15 to October 15, with private vehicles prohibited from using the Ma-2210 road daily between 10:00 and 22:00. The measures apply to cars, rental vehicles, motorcycles and trucks.

The route is divided into two sections. The first section, from Port de Pollença to Formentor Beach, remains accessible during restricted hours only if parking is available at the official beach car park, which has a capacity of 300 vehicles. Access is controlled via barriers and real-time signage.

The second section, from Formentor Beach to the lighthouse, is completely closed to private vehicles during restricted hours, with limited exceptions for residents, authorised permit holders and people with reduced mobility.

Cyclists, hikers and public transport services are still allowed to access the area without restrictions.

Authorities have confirmed that enforcement will continue through traffic cameras. Drivers who enter restricted areas without permission face fines between €100 and €200. In 2025 alone, more than 2,300 fines were issued.

To manage visitor demand, the TIB shuttle bus (Route 334) will operate daily between Alcudia and the Formentor lighthouse throughout the restriction period. The service includes multiple daily departures and offers an alternative to private transport, with journey times of around one hour from Alcudia.

Officials say the restrictions are necessary to manage high visitor numbers, reduce environmental impact and improve safety on the narrow mountain roads leading to one of Mallorca’s most popular tourist destinations.
