Fiji Removes All Covid-19 Limitations

News

The government of Fiji has declared that visitors from outside the country would no longer need to submit confirmation of Covid-19 immunisation or purchase insurance.

This new action, which applies to both air and maritime arrivals, is the result of the Covid-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce's (CRMT) comprehensive evaluation of the international and domestic circumstances surrounding Covid-19. The last entrance restrictions were lifted earlier this month as the authorities proceeded towards classifying Covid-19 as an endemic virus.

“The industry welcomes the decision to remove all protocols, restrictions, vaccination requirements and Covid-19 tests – and invites the world to come and experience Fiji: where happiness comes naturally. [...]

“We still strongly encourage travellers to have travel insurance and take the necessary precautions we all know well to stay healthy and maximise their fun in Fiji,” commented Tourism Fiji chief executive, Brent Hill.

Prior to this change, all passengers aged 16 and above were needed to provide documentation of complete immunisation and travel insurance for the disease.

The MHMS has recently indicated that low rates of hospitalisation may be attributed to the widespread immunisation programmes and robust domestic monitoring system in place. Importantly, efforts continue to concentrate on protecting those most likely to be impacted by Covid-19's devastating effects.

Booster injections are still being given to those who are eligible all around the islands, but the Ministry of Health and Medical Services says that 95% of the adult population has now had their primary vaccination.

Fiji has decided to end all border health measures connected to Covid-19, following the lead of other nations with high immunization coverage.

However, while encouraging social and economic revival, border authorities will keep assessing the efficacy of border health measures and keeping up community monitoring to detect emerging dangers as soon as possible.

In 2022, Fiji had an increase in tourism of almost 100% from the previous year, with 636,312 tourists.
