Explore Germany: Visit 25 Cities by Train with a Single Ticket

United Airlines has forged a strategic alliance with Deutsche Bahn, the German rail operator, to introduce an all-encompassing ticket encompassing both air and rail travel.
In a pioneering move effective from this Wednesday, United Airlines, in collaboration with the Lufthansa Group and Deutsche Bahn, is simplifying European travel by offering a unified ticket covering both air and train journeys.
This groundbreaking partnership enables travelers transiting through Frankfurt Airport to purchase a singular ticket that not only includes air travel but seamlessly extends to encompass 25 diverse cities in Germany, along with Basel, Switzerland. The integrated ticket ensures a unified fare for the entirety of the journey.
Stefan Kreuzpaintner, the Senior Vice President of Network, Alliances, and Partnerships at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, remarked, “Connecting amazing places on both sides of the Atlantic has never been so easy.” He added, “Together with our partners, we have consistently expanded our intermodal services in recent years in many European countries… It offers travellers to and from the USA a convenient, comfortable journey – a real premium product.”
Travelers opting for these integrated tickets will receive a consolidated boarding pass for both their flight and train during the check-in process. Additionally, they gain access to priority baggage handling and other amenities in the AiRail check-in area at Frankfurt Airport.
United MileagePlus members stand to accrue miles for the rail segment of their air/rail ticket, with eligible customers enjoying access to Deutsche Bahn lounges.
As an extra benefit, these tickets provide transfer and connection protection, safeguarding against delays or breakdowns.
Trains remain a highly accessible mode of transport in Europe post-arrival, offering an array of options ranging from inter-city trains to prominent lines like the Eurostar.
Deutsche Bahn, a key player, operates a staggering 40,000 trains daily across 5,700 train stations. Notably, the company, in collaboration with its French counterpart, is actively engaged in developing a high-speed connection between Paris and Berlin, poised to directly link these major cities within a swift 7-hour journey.
