Etihad Airways adds new weekly service to Istanbul

Airline News

A four times weekly service to Sabiha Gokcen Airport will be introduced by Etihad Airways during this year

As a result of the growing market demand, the airline, that already operates a full network connectivity daily service to Istanbul Ataturk Airport with an Airbus A330 since June 2009, has decided to expand its services into Sabiha Gokcen.

Beginning on 1st of July 2016, the new service will be operated by a 136-seats Airbus A320-200. The new routes boost connectivity and enable passengers traveling between the UAE and Istanbul to chose from more travel options via Abu Dhabi hub.

James Hogan, CEO at Etihad Airways commented on the company's newest launch:

“Istanbul is a critically important market within our global network and we plan to serve both city airports to support our wider expansion plans. We have seen an increasing number of guests travelling between both the United Arab Emirates and Turkey and we want this trend to continue and grow during 2016. The timing of the service is excellent to attract local travelers between Abu Dhabi and Istanbul, whilst also enabling seamless connectivity with markets in the GCC, Indian Sub-Continent, Northern Asia, Southern Asia and Australia.”

Due to Istanbul Ataturk Airport high popularity, the Etihad Airways network is currently prospecting the possibility of adding a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner to serve this hub during 2016.
