English Channel Floor Reveals Ancient City

News

A metropolis dating back 8,000 years was found at the bottom of the English Channel.

The hidden historical treasure is located in Doggerland, an area that linked the British Isles to mainland Europe in ancient times.

One artifact from an old civilization going back some 8,000 years has now been discovered lying under the waters, and only a select few have ever had the opportunity to see it. It's a secret location in the area of Doggerland, which was formerly the land bridge between the British Isles and the rest of Europe. In 2019, a group of explorers led by physicist Albert Lin set out to find this mysterious "lost city."

It was a magnificent 8,000-year-old tree that had survived being underwater for millennia, as shown by their original finding. The divers' curiosity was piqued when they came upon an underwater structure that Lin thought may be a port, leading them to eventually find an abandoned underwater city.

The late 19th century saw the confirmation of Doggerland's existence, but the early 20th century saw the accidental discovery of archaeological riches as ships were passing through the area. A piece of peat bearing an antler tip, most likely from a spear, dating to some time between 10,000 and 4,000 B.C. was towed up by a trawler fishing near Norfolk in 1931.

Lin explained that the wooden structure was a multi-tiered dock-like underwater platform. The strange, cold, and murky setting amazed him despite its unsettling qualities. Wood would have stayed maintained for many more millennia if it weren't for the recent erosion of the old topography, he stated, arguing that the wood's amazing preservation was owing to its high oxygen deprivation.

According to maritime archaeologist Garry Momber, discovering composite structures of this kind is of huge importance on an international level. He also emphasized that finding anything of this age is quite unusual.
