easyJet Pilots Share Live Euros Final Scores In-Flight

Entertainment

Football fans flying with easyJet during Sunday’s England vs Spain Euros final won’t miss out on the action, as pilots will deliver live score updates during flights.

Passengers on flights to and from the UK and Spain – including services to Basel, where the final is being held – will receive live updates via the airline’s Operations Control Centre using ACARS, the system that allows communication with aircraft cruising at 38,000 feet. Pilots will then relay the scores from the flight deck to passengers.

To avoid unwanted spoilers, ‘Match of the Day’-style alerts will precede announcements for anyone wishing to stay in suspense until landing.

easyJet has seen a surge in demand for flights to Switzerland, particularly from London and Malaga, following England’s semi-final win over Italy.

“Our pilots will be match ready to keep fans updated mid-flight,” said Alexander Gerritsen, easyJet’s Chief Pilot. “We’ve flown thousands to Basel throughout the tournament, and now we’re ensuring fans can stay connected during the biggest match of the summer.”
