easyJet Employees In Portugal Might Go On Strike

News

The beginning of the next month might bring disruptions to the services provided by EasyJet to Portugal. In a disagreement over wages and working conditions, cabin staff employed by the airline in Portugal are planning to go on strike between April 1 and April 3. Late in the previous week, Portugal's SNPVAC union provided confirmation that strike preparations were underway.

The easyJet workforce, according to the union, has seen a decline in their "buying power" over the course of the last three years as a direct result of the current economic conditions. The rise in the cost of living makes life difficult for employees and puts their families' safety and quality of life at jeopardy.

In a recent statement issued by the company, easyJet’s representatives commented about the workers’ plans:

"We are disappointed with this action, especially given the significant investment we have made in the country in recent years, which has created hundreds of new jobs in Portugal. [We] hope SNPVAC will resume a constructive dialogue with us."

Any action might have an effect on the services to Lisbon, Porto, and Faro, which serve the Algarve region. According to Reuters, easyJet presently maintains 19 aircraft bases in Portugal, where it also employs more than 750 workers.

More updates on this situation to follow.
