Dubai Airports Installs 520 Hearing Loops at DXB

Society

Dubai Airports has completed the installation of over 520 Hearing Loops across Dubai International (DXB), marking the world’s largest deployment of the assistive technology in an airport. The initiative aims to improve accessibility for passengers with hearing loss, including those using hearing aids or cochlear implants.

The loops have been integrated into key passenger-facing areas across all three terminals, including check-in desks, immigration counters, boarding gates, and information points. The technology allows travellers to connect automatically via the ‘T’ (telecoil) setting on their hearing devices, requiring no additional pairing or hardware.

“At Dubai Airports, we are committed to ensuring that every guest, regardless of ability, can navigate our terminals with ease, dignity, and confidence,” said Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports. “This milestone is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our oneDXB community and our shared vision for a more seamless and accessible travel experience.”

The rollout was achieved in partnership with key airport stakeholders, including Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, GDRFA, Dubai Customs, dnata, and Dubai Duty Free, among others. Aligned with Dubai’s Universal Design Code, the deployment was completed with minimal disruption to operations.

To support the initiative, Dubai Airports has also delivered specialised training for frontline staff, ensuring they are equipped to assist guests of determination effectively.

According to the World Health Organisation, more than 1.5 billion people globally live with some form of hearing loss—a number projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050. The widespread implementation of Hearing Loops at DXB represents a forward-thinking approach to inclusive travel in one of the world’s busiest airports.

This initiative forms part of a broader accessibility strategy by Dubai Airports, which combines infrastructure upgrades and guest-centred services to ensure a barrier-free journey for all travellers, from arrival to departure.
