Dubai Airports Confirms US$1.2bn Investment in Terminal Expansion

Airline News

Dubai Airports has revealed its plan to invest US$ 1.2 billion in upgraded facilities for the more than 110 international airlines that are operating from Dubai.

After construction and testing will be finalized, International's Terminals 1 and 2 will offer a considerably improved customer experience.

When it will open later on in the year, Concourse D will be the new home for almost 100 airlines that are now located in Concourse C.

The addition will feature 11 remote stands and 21 contact stands, with four of them having the property of accommodating Boeing 747 or Airbus A380 aircraft.

Displaying an atrium in its center, Concourse D was specifically designed to deliver an improved and more intuitive passenger experience, with shorter walks to connect travellers to their flights.

The new facility will also benefit from open gates, created to enable passengers to board from the waiting area, thus allowing them more time to enjoy the food and beverage selections.

The major modernisation and refurbishment of Terminal 1 and Concourse D will cost a US$ 490 million once it is finished.

This includes upgrades to the drop-off and pick-up points outside the terminal, refurbishment of the already existing check-in and departure area and modernisation of landside arrivals, including new food, beverage and retail stores.

Construction is on track for completion mid-year, paving the way for the full launch of a rigorous trial and testing programme to ensure that every system and process is ready prior to opening.

To transport passengers to Concourse D, a new train station will also be constructed. The project includes a redesigned immigration area and new airside arrivals route from the new train station.

On the North side of the airport, Terminal 2 has been upgraded after a US$ 163 million investment, which includes an expanded transfer area, a larger check-in area with 48 counters and 40 immigration counters.
