Car Rental & Rail

Today, ARF and Polish rolling stock manufacturer PESA will sign a contract to purchase 62 regional electric trainsets (RE-R).

The signing event for the purchase of 62 regional electric trainsets (RE-R) by the Railway Reform Authority (ARF) and the Polish rolling stock manufacturer Pojazdy Szynowe Pesa Bydgoszcz Spolka Akcyjna (PESA) is set to take place today at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI). Attendees will include the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, and the Polish Ambassador to Romania, Pawel Soloch.

According to ARF information released on January 19th to the Agerpres agency, the evaluation committees have invited PESA to sign the contract on January 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The trains, divided into three lots, are designated for regional short-distance transport. The contracts include a clause for a 15-year maintenance and repair service period, essential for the operation of these trains, with an option to extend the maintenance period by another 15 years without a competitive procedure, through an additional act.

The project's funding will be secured through the European Modernization Fund (FM) 2021 - 2030, a key instrument contributing to the goals of the European Green Deal by supporting a socially just transition to a green economy.

The project's total value at the time of auction launch ranged between 3.23 billion lei and 4.15 billion lei, excluding VAT, split across three lots: Lot 1 comprises 20 RE-R electric trainsets for routes including Bucharest North - Ploiești South - Adjud and Iași - Pașcani - Suceava, with an estimated value between 1.04 billion lei and 1.34 billion lei, excluding VAT. Lot 2 includes 23 RE-R electric trainsets for routes like Brașov - Gheorgheni and Arad - Timișoara - Caransebeș, estimated between 1.21 billion lei and 1.55 billion lei, excluding VAT. Lot 3, with 19 RE-R electric trainsets for routes such as Bucharest North - Ploiești West - Brașov and Constanța - Fetești, is valued between 984 million lei and 1.26 billion lei, excluding VAT. The duration of the contracts for the assigned lots will be 221 - 222 months, depending on the lot.
