Brussels Airport Opens New Brucargo Logistics Hub

Brussels Airport has officially opened Brucargo Central, a cutting-edge logistics complex that expands the airport’s cargo handling capabilities while setting new benchmarks for sustainability and efficiency.
Replacing eight outdated buildings, the newly developed 83,500 m² site now features three modern warehouses totaling 34,000 m², offering a 30% increase in storage capacity. The €70 million redevelopment project also adds 10,000 m² of temperature-controlled storage, crucial for sectors like pharmaceuticals, food, and e-commerce.
The project comes as Brussels Airport handles record cargo volumes — 733,000 tonnes in 2024 — with consistent 6% annual growth since 2019, making it Europe’s largest pharma hub.
“This expansion is part of our long-term strategy to support the fast-growing logistics sector,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport. “Brucargo Central provides the flexibility, sustainability, and infrastructure needed for operators to thrive.”
The site is fully fossil fuel-free, built with sustainable materials like wood, and certified BREEAM-Excellent. Solar panels, electric heat pumps with geothermal storage, improved water management, and ample natural lighting all contribute to its energy efficiency. Green space has increased by 20%, enhancing the working environment.
Mobility and safety were also priorities. A new multi-storey car park for 500 cars and 21 trucks improves access, while electric vehicle chargers and dedicated cycling paths support greener transport.
Brucargo Central will house five major logistics firms: Nippon Express, DSV Air & Sea, Hazgo (part of SGS), EV Cargo, and Deny Cargo — each expanding their presence at Brussels Airport to serve key industries, especially healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
This new logistics hub not only strengthens the airport’s cargo capabilities but also advances its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
