Mumbai has the ability of surprising everyone with its unique recipes. Everyone traveling to Mumbai should try as many street foods as possible. We have gathered a few of the most appreciated foods, and where to find them.

Vada Pav

It is a homegrown version of the veggie burger. It is cheap and available everywhere, and most probably Mumbai’s favorite food snack. Vada pav is a delightful mix of tastes and textures. A plump and warm fried vada (potato patty), crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, placed inside a pav (thick bun) that has been sliced open and touched with fiery garlic and chili chutney.

Pav Bhaji

Mumbai continues to surprise us with another street snack meant to steal our hearts. This thick red curry of mashed vegetables will definitely make even the stubbornest customer ask for more.

Great amounts of butter are used into both the bread during the toasting process and into the curry, right before it is served. A squeeze of lemon and a dash of raw onion are added, and the snack is done.

You can find it here: Sardar's, 166-A Tardeo Road Junction, Tulsiwadi, near Tardeo bus depot

Chutney Sandwich

The secret ingredient of this dish is a generous smearing of green chutney made with fresh coriander, green chilli and garlic. Fresh vegetables such as tomato and cucumber, boiled potatoes and crumbled cottage cheese are essential ingredients into this sandwich, grilled to golden perfection on a small hand-held toaster.

You can find it here: Bachelorr's, Chowpatty Sea Face, opposite Birla Krida Kendra

Bhel Puri

It is one of the few healthy foods that can be found on Indian streets. It is made out of puffed rice, sev (a thin and crip fried snack made of chickpea flour), boiled potato, raw mango and onions, everything topped with fresh coriander and two or three chutneys.

You can find it here: Swati Snacks, 248, Karai Estate, Opposite Bhatia Hospital, Tardeo Road

There are many other snacks and street foods that make Mumbai special. If you are on your way there, make sure to try as many as you can.
