Munich Airport to Open New Terminal 1 Pier on April 13
Munich Airport has set April 13, 2026 as the date for the grand opening of its long-anticipated Terminal 1 Pier, marking a major milestone in the airport’s infrastructure expansion. The new facility significantly boosts the airport’s capacity and enhances the travel experience for passengers, particularly those flying outside the Schengen area.
The Terminal 1 Pier spans approximately 95,000 square metres and extends around 360 metres into the airport’s west apron. It is designed to accommodate up to six million additional passengers per year, one of the largest infrastructure investments currently underway in Bavaria.
Once operational, the pier will be able to serve up to twelve short- and medium-haul aircraft or six wide-body aircraft simultaneously, supporting Munich Airport’s long-term growth strategy and reinforcing its role as a major European air hub.
Passengers will benefit from modernised facilities, including centralised security checks with advanced CT screening technology, spacious waiting areas, expanded retail and dining options, and dedicated relaxation zones across multiple levels. The pier also features premium lounges, such as the new Airport Lounge World with panoramic apron and Alpine views.
According to airport officials, the €665 million expansion was financed entirely from Munich Airport’s own resources and represents a strategic investment in both capacity and passenger comfort. A period of extensive trial operations involving test passengers and industry partners has already taken place to ensure a smooth launch ahead of the official opening.
The new pier is expected to start welcoming airline operations later in April, with non-Schengen carriers relocating to the expanded facilities and offering enhanced services to travellers from around the world.
