An Infection Has Spread Aboard a Cruise Ship

An intestinal infection has affected hundreds of passengers on the board of a British cruise ship as American Epidemic Intelligence Service (CDC) announced for the Reuters website. The British cruise ship named Balmoral, owned by the Fred Olsen Company, left the British port of Southampton on April 16 for a 34-day trip that includes stops in Portugal, Bermuda and the United States.
An infection caused by norovirus was extended to 153 passengers and six crew members of the vessel, causing symptoms such as digestive disorders and bowel problems. Aboard the cruise there are more than 919 passengers, along with hundreds of crew members and employees.
Currently, the ship is stationary in the Portland harbor, in the US state of Maine. Most of the passengers of Balmoral are British citizens, and seven of them were placed in quarantine in a hospital in the United States.
This is not a singular event as the company’s ships had also faced such problems in the past. The cruise ship has been surprised by another incredible infection that provoked symptoms of a gastroenteritis-type illness for hundreds of tourists in Denmark.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is a UK-based, Norwegian-owned cruise shipping line with four cruise ships. The company is part of the Fred Olsen Group.
