American Airlines to Open Flagship Lounge in Charlotte

American Airlines is elevating the travel experience at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) with plans to introduce a Flagship® lounge and expand its Admirals Club® footprint—marking a major upgrade for premium flyers at one of the airline’s busiest hubs.
The new Flagship® lounge will bring American’s highest level of airport luxury to Charlotte for the first time, offering champagne welcomes, locally inspired cuisine, and spa-style shower suites. Construction timelines and further details will be announced at a later date.
“We’re excited to continue investing in our lounges at CLT,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “This expansion will enhance the premium experience and create more space for all of our Admirals Club® guests.”
American currently operates three lounge spaces in CLT:
-
Admirals Club® lounges in Concourses B and C/D
-
A Provisions by Admirals Club℠ grab-and-go concept in Concourse A — the first of its kind in the airline’s network
The Flagship® lounge in Charlotte will feature distinct lounge “neighborhoods” tailored to traveler needs:
-
Lounge areas for rest and relaxation
-
Bar and dining sections for meals and socializing
-
Private villas with shower suites, workstations, and family rooms
CLT is American Airlines’ second-largest hub, connecting passengers to over 170 destinations in 27 countries. The airline employs over 15,500 people in Charlotte, and its regional partner PSA Airlines is set to relocate its headquarters to the city in January 2026.
“Charlotte is incredibly important to American’s network,” said Ralph Lopez, Senior VP of CLT Operations. “These lounge upgrades reflect our commitment to the millions of travelers who pass through CLT each year.”
CLT CEO Haley Gentry welcomed the news, calling the Flagship® lounge “a significant enhancement to the travel experience” and a reflection of the airport’s strong partnership with American.
