American Airlines Adds Special Kentucky Flights for Race Week

American Airlines is adding a series of special flights to Louisville, Kentucky, this spring to support increased travel demand tied to major events taking place in the region. The additional services — scheduled around late April to early May 2026 — will link Louisville’s Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) with multiple U.S. cities, offering travellers more options for what is expected to be a busy travel period.

The expanded schedule includes additional flights from key hubs and points such as Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, New York (both JFK and LaGuardia), Philadelphia and more. Many of these services operate between 30 April and 3 May, enhancing connectivity for passengers travelling to and from Kentucky during race week festivities.

Some of the special flights are one-off additions, while others complement existing scheduled service, giving travelers greater flexibility and choice. A mix of aircraft will be deployed, including narrow-body jets and dual-class equipment that offers passengers access to premium cabins on select services.

American’s initiative reflects typical airline responses to temporary spikes in travel demand associated with major local events, ensuring that fans, participants and visitors have easier access to the region without the need for complex connections or off-peak routing.

In addition to the special flights, American continues to operate its regular schedule to and from Louisville, providing year-round connectivity across its domestic network.
