All Nippon Airways Resumes Flights to Perth in 2023

The COVID-19 crisis left Australia's capital, Perth, on the west coast, just as isolated as the UK, US, or Asia. Australia, a federation state and territory, was in an absurd situation.
It was impossible to travel from Sydney to Dubai without being stopped by the border.
This absurd state is long gone, and Perth, like China, has rejoined the global community. Yesterday, Perth Airport (PER), announced that Japan's All Nippon Airways had returned to Perth. Flights will resume on October 29th.
The first flight will be three times per week using one of ANA’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. ANA has a wide range of configurations for its 787s. According to yesterday's announcement, the Tokyo Narita to Perth flight will have 184 seats.
ANA currently has almost all its fleet on active duty. Only eight of the 213-strong fleet are listed as inactive by ch-aviation.com. ANA uses 24 De Havilland DHC-8Q400 turboprops under a wet charter arrangement.
ch-aviation.com data indicates that almost 40% of ANA’s fleet is Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This includes forty 787-9s (36 787-8s), and three 787-10s. The company also has eight additional 787-9s and 11 787-10s in order. ANA increases the 787 capacity by adding a mixture of Boeing 767 and 777 planes as well as three Airbus A380s. Narrowbodies include 39 Boeing 737-8800s and 37 Airbus A320-family aircraft.
It will bring back more than 57.400 seats to the market when it resumes. This, according to Kate Holsgrove, acting CEO of the airport, is a significant milestone in its post-COVID efforts at rebuilding international aviation links. She said:
"Prior to the pandemic, ANA's Perth-Tokyo route was incredibly popular with travelers, and we expect there to be huge demand when it resumes later this year. The October launch will allow ANA to replicate the successful build-up they undertook for the first direct flights back in 2019, with a strong focus on both business travel and the Japanese ski season."
Perth is a city full of sun, surf and sand. Therefore, the words snow-skiing or Perth are not often used together. A snowy trip to Australia for West Australians usually involves flying to Sydney, Melbourne, or Queenstown in New Zealand. Air New Zealand offers a daily direct flight between Perth and Auckland with connections to the South Island ski fields.
Wamos Air, a Spanish charter operator, operates the Auckland service on behalf of Air New Zealand. The flight takes approximately 6:15 hours. It takes approximately 9:30 hours to fly from Perth to Tokyo. Japan is also a popular option for skiers coming from both the east or west coasts of Australia.
Although the route was announced yesterday it will take ten months until the first ANA flight departs Perth airport bound for Narita. According to the airport, it will "rebuild confidently in order to provide a daily service with strong passenger demands all year," so there is plenty of time for ANA to help it achieve that goal over the next months.
