AirAsia X Launches Direct Flights Between Gatwick and Kuala Lumpur
AirAsia X has launched new direct flights from London Gatwick Airport to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, opening a year-round long-haul connection between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.
The inaugural service marks AirAsia X’s first UK destination and expands Gatwick’s long-haul network by adding a daily link to one of Southeast Asia’s major travel hubs. The Kuala Lumpur service enhances connectivity for both leisure travellers and business passengers, offering convenient access to Malaysia and onward connections across Asia.
Flights on the new route are scheduled to operate daily, using AirAsia X’s long-range aircraft tailored for low-fare, long-distance travel. By offering a direct option between London and Kuala Lumpur, the airline aims to tap into strong demand for affordable travel to Southeast Asia, while giving UK passengers an alternative to flying via other European gateways.
London Gatwick’s leadership welcomed the new service, highlighting that direct long-haul flights strengthen the airport’s position as a key international gateway outside London’s busiest centre. The route supports broader tourism and business ties between the UK and Malaysia and provides an attractive option for travellers seeking culturally rich destinations, tropical beaches and vibrant urban experiences.
Passengers flying between Gatwick and Kuala Lumpur will benefit from AirAsia X’s competitive fare structure and expanded route options across the carrier’s network, which includes connections throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and beyond.
The launch of this service reflects post-pandemic recovery in long-haul travel and underlines growing passenger interest in routes linking Europe with Asia’s dynamic markets. As airlines continue to expand global connectivity, direct flights like Gatwick–Kuala Lumpur play an increasing role in meeting traveller demand for non-stop travel between continents.
