Aena Airports Handle 25.4 Million Passengers in February
Airports operated by the Aena Group recorded more than 25.4 million passengers in February 2026, representing a 3.7% increase compared with the same month in 2025.
Across the group’s network of airports in Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil, a total of 25,434,678 passengers traveled through Aena facilities during the month. Aircraft movements reached 218,751, up 1.9% year-on-year, while cargo volumes totaled 119,929 tonnes, an increase of 7.3%.
In Spain alone, Aena’s network of 46 airports and two heliports handled 20,555,745 passengers in February, 2.8% more than in the same month last year. The increase was slightly lower than the 4% growth recorded between February 2025 and February 2024.
Aena said around 108,000 additional passengers used its airport network following a rail accident in January that disrupted several high-speed train routes between major Spanish cities including Madrid, Málaga, Seville and Barcelona.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest passenger traffic in the network with 5.07 million travelers, a 5.3% increase compared with February 2025. Barcelona-El Prat followed with 3.89 million passengers, while Málaga-Costa del Sol handled 1.57 million travelers.
Other busy airports included Gran Canaria with 1.35 million passengers, Tenerife Sur with 1.26 million, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández with 1.23 million and Palma de Mallorca with just over one million passengers.
Overall, 18 airports across the Spanish network recorded their busiest February ever, including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Gran Canaria and Valencia.
Cargo traffic also increased significantly, with Madrid-Barajas handling the largest freight volume at 65,279 tonnes, followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 17,746 tonnes and Zaragoza Airport with 13,335 tonnes.
Aena’s airports in Brazil handled 3.67 million passengers in February, an 8.9% increase compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, London Luton Airport recorded 1.2 million passengers, representing growth of 3%.
During the first two months of 2026, Aena Group airports handled more than 51.2 million passengers, up 3.5% compared with the same period in 2025. Cargo volumes also continued to grow, rising 7.2% year-on-year.
