According to the National Institute of Statistics, Tourists in Spain Spent More

According to the same source, the tourist arrivals in February 2019 are the same as pre-pandemic levels. INE highlighted this fact by pointing out that only 58,974 tourists arrived in 2019, a higher number than the February 2023 figures.

The number of tourists who visited Spain in January and February this year increased by 49% to almost 8.5 million. The arrival of tourists to Spain in the same time period as 2022 was 5.7 million. This is just 1.3 percent less than the arrivals of the first two months 2019.

"It is proving to be an exceptional start to the year for tourism, at the gates of Easter in which we expect occupancy and spending records to be broken," the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Hector Gomez, said.

According to INE data, international tourists spent EUR659 millions more in February 2019 than they did in February 2019.

The average tourist cost was EUR1,233 in February with an increase of 3.8% annually. The average daily expense for tourists increased by 19.2% to EUR163.

The average length of stay for tourists in Spain during this period was between four and seven nights. This is almost 2.1million people, an increase of 37.2 percent annually. Additionally, the number of trips lasting between eight and fifteen nights has increased by 27.1 percent.

The main reason for tourists visiting Spain in February was leisure. This represents an increase of 33.3 percent annually. The percentage of tourists visiting Spain for business purposes grew by 65.5 percent.

The UK continues to lead the Spanish tourist market

The United Kingdom remained at the top of the list with 784 496 tourists, an increase of 35.6 percent compared to February 2022.

France and Germany occupy the second and third spots, with 636,530 tourists from each country and 509,883 visitors from Germany.

The United States had a 93% increase in tourists, Italy 44% and Switzerland 42% respectively. In the first two months this year, the main emitting countries were the United Kingdom with over 1.5million tourists and an annual rise of 61.9 percent, France with more that 1.1 million tourists and an increase in 30.2 percentage, and Germany with 988,142 tourists, 47.2 percent more.

With 1.2 million tourists visiting the Canary Islands in February, it is still the most popular tourist destination. This is an increase of 27.1% over last year. The UK, which has 33.1 percent of all tourists to these islands, and Germany (17.1%) are the two main residences of tourists who visit them.

Catalonia is second with 21.4 percent, following the Canary Islands. It is the second largest tourist community. This is a significant increase over 2022, when Catalonia hosted 924,464 tourists in February.

This means that Catalonia saw 49.1 percent more tourists arrive in February 2022 than in February 2022. In terms of origin country, 22% of visitors are from France, and 8.1% from the United Kingdom.

Andalusia occupied the third spot. It had 611,588 tourists in February, an increase of 43.9 percent annually. With 19.2% of the total, the UK is the country of origin. The Nordic countries are second with 11.3 percent.

The Canary Islands with over 2.4 million tourists in the first two months 2023 are also the most popular. This is a 40.9 percent increase compared to 2022. Catalonia has 1.7 million with an increase of 58.1 percentage and Andalucia, which has nearly 1.2million, is also a 58.1 percent increase.
