HARRIS Hotel Opens in Penang, Marking the Brand’s Malaysia Debut

The Ascott Limited has opened HARRIS Hotel & Conventions Sunshine Penang, bringing the HARRIS brand to Malaysia for the first time. The 284-room property is located within the Sunshine Central development in Ayer Itam, about 30 minutes from Penang International Airport.

The hotel is designed to serve a broad mix of guests — leisure travelers, families, corporate visitors, and event planners — within a single integrated destination that combines accommodation, meetings and events facilities, and direct mall connectivity. Room types include HARRIS Rooms, HARRIS Suites, and HARRIS Family Suites, with facilities including Harris Bistro, a swimming pool, children’s wading pool, playground, and gymnasium.

For events, the pillarless Grand Ballroom can host up to 1,000 guests for banquet-style functions, making it one of the larger event venues on the island. The hotel is positioned to attract weddings, corporate functions, conferences, and regional business events, supported by ample parking within the Sunshine Central development.

The location also makes it a practical base for medical travelers visiting Penang’s established hospitals, as well as families and leisure guests drawn to nearby Penang Hill, Kek Lok Si Temple, local hawker food markets, and traditional neighborhoods.

“Penang’s strong position as a tourism, healthcare and business events destination makes it an ideal location for the brand’s first Malaysian property,” said Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager of Ascott Malaysia.

To mark the opening, rooms are available from RM220 per night for stays between July 3 and October 31, 2026, with bookings open through the same period.
