47,700 European Youngsters Will Receive Free Travel Tickets

DiscoverEU is an initiative of Erasmus+ that offers children the chance to travel free throughout Europe.
It has announced that 47,700 tickets will be awarded to European youth at the end of this winter.
SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that the European Commission released a statement on Tuesday, January 10 stating that successful applicants will travel solo or with up to five others between March 2019 and February 2024.
They also stated that most of their travel would be by train with some exceptions to accommodate those who live on islands or in remote locations.
"Thanks to DiscoverEU, 47,700 youth will soon begin planning their journey across Europe and join an expanding community of mobile Europeans," Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Education and Youth, stated in this regard.
Gabriel stated that, in order to take into consideration the desire of young people to discover cultural things during their travels, a discount card has been created for cultural activities. A thematic cultural route has also been published on European Youth Portal. She also wished the winners a memorable experience.
This round of applications for the Erasmus+ program is open to young citizens who were born between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2004 in EU Member States, as well as countries associated with Erasmus+ (e.g. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, North Macedonia and Serbia).
Participants selected will have the opportunity to attend pre-departure meetings or information sessions across Europe in order to enhance the educational aspect of their trip. Nearly 754,000 people applied for DiscoverEU travel and tourism visas to Europe in June 2013.
This EU-enabled initiative allows 18-year-olds of the EU and other third countries to travel across Europe, meet new people, and learn about European cultures. According to DicoverEU 35,000 tickets were made available for applicants in the October round.
To apply for a travel permit, a young person must visit the European Youth Portal website. They will need to answer five questions and one more question.
It should be noted that applicants who were born between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024 and have passed the selection quiz will travel to Europe for 30 days in the period March 1, 2023 through February 29, 2024.
DiscoverEU revealed that 165,000 travel permits had been made available in the six rounds of applications from 2018 to 2022. These permits were mostly issued to German citizens.
