Egypt launches new campaign to attract tourists
"This is Egypt" new campaign aims to revive the country's tourism sector by attracting Gulf visitors
"This is Egypt" social media video and hash-tag campaign targets visitors from Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait. The video that promotes Egypt as a holiday destination for these Gulf countries is to be displayed on major satellite channels and inside main business centers in all three target countries.
"Arabs are more understanding of what happened with the Russian plane incident. We are counting on close ties between these countries and Egypt", declared Sami Mahmoud, chairman of Egypt's tourism authority.
Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait are the three Arab countries which can boost the most Egypt's tourism industry. According to last year's tourism statistics report, Saudi Arabia visitors only represent 21.6 per cent of the total number of country's tourists.
The tourism sector, seriously shaken after 2011 internal events against Hosni Mubarak and the Russian airplane bomb incident in October leaving 224 people dead, is a major source of influx for the country. Foreign currency reached $16.41 billion after the events in October, which is a critical level for Egypt's economy.
