Zwanenburgbaan Runway Closed for Maintenance from June 17 to 28

Airlines & Airports

From Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 28, the Zwanenburgbaan Runway at Schiphol Airport will undergo its annual maintenance. During this period, the runway will be unavailable for air traffic, and alternative runways will be utilized for departures and landings.

Maintenance Details

Annual maintenance ensures that all runways remain in optimal condition. The Zwanenburgbaan Runway will undergo various restorative works, including:

  • Asphalt and Markings: Restorative works as needed.
  • Cabling and Electrics: Thorough checks and necessary repairs.
  • Rainwater Drainage System: Flushing out to ensure proper drainage.
  • Grass Cutting: Trimming the grass around the runway.
  • Lights: Cleaning and repairing the runway lights.

These maintenance tasks will be carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans. Additionally, Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) will work on the Instrument Landing System (ILS) of the Zwanenburgbaan.

Alternative Runways

During the maintenance period, air traffic will be redirected to the Buitenveldertbaan, Kaagbaan, and Schiphol-Oostbaan runways. Departing flights will utilize the Buitenveldertbaan and Kaagbaan runways, while landing flights will use the Buitenveldertbaan, Kaagbaan, and Schiphol-Oostbaan runways. This shift will result in increased air traffic over the areas beneath these runways' flight paths.

Information for Neighbors

Residents with questions or concerns about air traffic and runway use during the maintenance period can contact the Local Community Contact Centre Schiphol (BAS). The BAS website offers an overview of current runway use and operational details and serves as the primary point of contact for information and complaints about air traffic at Schiphol. BAS is available seven days a week from 09:00 to 17:00 at 020-6015555 or via their website.

This annual maintenance is crucial to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Schiphol Airport’s runways, and the collaboration with Heijmans and LVNL aims to minimize disruption while maintaining high safety standards.
