Zurich Airport Prepares for Higher Traffic During WEF 2026

Airlines & Airports

Zurich Airport is gearing up for increased traffic as the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 approaches, with the airport anticipating roughly 1,000 additional flight movements during the event period.

The WEF annual meeting, taking place in Davos-Klosters from 19 to 23 January, attracts business leaders, political figures and delegations from around the world. Many of these travellers will transit through Zurich Airport, which serves as a key gateway to the alpine summit.

Zurich Airport Ltd. said the extra movements will include arrivals and departures of business jets, state aircraft and helicopter traffic related to the summit. This increase in operations is consistent with previous years when the forum generated heightened demand for flights in and out of the region.

In response to the forecast rise in activity, the airport is making arrangements to accommodate visitors and aviation movements while maintaining regular passenger services. Aviation enthusiasts will also see extended opening hours for Observation Deck B during the forum from 17 to 23 January.

Zurich Airport said that while temporary restrictions on certain visitor facilities may occur due to security measures during the WEF, passenger processes such as check-in and access to terminals will remain unchanged.

As one of Switzerland’s busiest aviation hubs, Zurich Airport plays a central role in supporting major global events like the World Economic Forum, balancing operational demands with service continuity for travellers.
