Property destruction in Mexico City
Maria Guadalupe was filmed on a cellphone smashing a computer screen and throwing it onto the floor near a Volaris counter. Guadalupe, who had booked a flight through a travel agent, allegedly lost her temper after it did not appear in Volaris' system.
Guadalupe was informed by a Volaris employee that in order to receive her refund, she needed to contact the travel agent with whom she had already booked the flight. Guadalupe lost her temper after the employee informed her of this. She continued to argue with workers, and even threw the barcode scanner onto the ground in front a group of passengers. She began to destroy the baggage counter after slamming the computer screen and keyboard on the ground.
Guadalupe allegedly yelled obscenities towards airline employees during the incident. The passenger is said to have yelled, "Get out of my office!" at an airline employee.
"Don't give me my money back, I don't give a damn. But this is going to cost you."
Guadalupe, shortly after she slammed the equipment on the counter, was led away. She allegedly tried to leave the airport but was stopped by auxiliary police agents before she could do so. She was taken into custody. Volaris was ultimately the one to file charges against Guadalupe, for her destruction of property and disturbing the peace.
Volaris' house was the scene of an incident
Mexico City International Airport is a frequent stop for the airline based in Mexico. A low-cost carrier isn't known for having many incidents, particularly in its home country. The airline was the first in the history of the country to transport over 30 million passengers last year.
Volaris has shown continued growth this year despite the COVID-19 Pandemic. The airline began the month of July with a growth of 15% compared to 2022. Volaris transported over 10 million passengers from January to April. The airline was aiming to beat its own record set in 2022.
Recently, the airline announced 40 new routes within Mexico. The routes announced in May this year were mostly point to point routes that increased regional connectivity. Twelve new routes will be added in Guanajuato, and ten more routes to Baja California. In addition, 33 of the routes are exclusives and flown only by one airline.
Volaris has continued to expand, and was revealed as a client who ordered 25 Airbus A321neos in October 2022. Enrique Beltranena stated that Volaris's Chief Executive Officer and President, Enrique Beltranena said the number of aircraft ordered shows the airline’s "financial strength and will guarantee our growth in the Mexican market as well as in routes to the United States and Central America."
