News

How does the terrorist attacks affect the countries known as tourism destinations like Greece, France, Egypt or Tunisia? To what extent did the tourism in Muslim countries, like Turkey was affected even if the danger is much lower? To what extent do travelers no longer venturing into Greece on the brink of bankruptcy, the Greek forming queues at ATMs to withdraw money? Terrorist attacks, violent protests, strikes and blockages bank - they all seem to ruin holiday plans, although some applications destinations is growing despite the risks.

This is why, during a recent visit to the country the UNWTO secretary general, Rifai, met with Egypt’s president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in the presence of the Egyptian minister of tourism, Hisham Zaazou that expressed his believe in the Egypt recovery.

Major tourist destination, Egypt has been heavily ravaged by the Arab Spring wave, which led to the fall of Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Then came to power the traditionalist Sunni Muslims ( Muslim Brotherhood ) under the administration of Mohamed Morsi, who in 2013 was to be overthrown by an army intervention. 2014 Egypt was led by General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the head of the armed forces who intervened to overthrow Morsi administration.

With the installation of El-Sisi, Egypt has established a very secular regime which launched an offensive on the Muslim Brotherhood organization. Sunni pan-Islamic organizatio , established since 1928 , underlies some organizations like Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank (considered terrorist by the European Union) . Thus  the administration of military and secular orientation in Cairo caught the attention of jihadist terrorist organizations Al Qaeda and Islamic State.

Although it is on the rise, ministers from around the world warn their population that is strictly forbidden to traveling in the northern Sinai Peninsula, in isolated areas of the border with Sudan, Libya and Israel because of the precarious state of security and permanent dangers of kidnapping and armed attacks.
