Uber Company Won't Leave Hungary
Uber feels the pressure of the Budapest authorities to cease its activities in the country, but the US company says it is their right to activate in the market and that they fight for innovation and transparency. Still the authorities reply continues to mention that Uber should comply with the taxi laws if they want to operate in the country, that meaning that drivers would be required to operate only with yellow cars and that prices to be similar to those charged by the taxi drivers.
Budapest taxi drivers protested vehemently against Uber in January, and the government has fulfilled requests, creating a draft proposal that basically putting Uber on outlawed list. Under the new rules proposed by the authorities, Uber drivers should drive just yellow cars and its fares to be written in sight. They should have a taxi license and not drive cars older than ten years.
Uber considered to be one of the most valuable startups in the world, recently stated that they do not provide taxi services, but a technological system. They are mainly an IT company which operates an online marketplace to offer various services. Uber Hungary stressed that they do not have a taxi dispatcher and payments can only be made electronic.
Uber was launched in 2014 in Budapest with more than 1,200 drivers that carry a total number of 110,000 users registered in the application. The Uber Company says they would like to reach a total of 2,000 drivers.
