TUI names its new Boeing 737-8 aircraft "Ivalo" in a Valentine's Day ceremony at Ivalo Airport, showcasing its commitment to Lapland and sustainable aviation.

On the romantic occasion of Valentine's Day, 14 February 2024, TUI marked a special moment by officially naming its latest Boeing 737-8 aircraft "Ivalo" at a ceremony held at Ivalo Airport. This new addition, arriving directly from Amsterdam, represents the third aircraft within TUI's fleet to be named after a cherished Lapland destination, underscoring the deep connection between the airline and this enchanting region.

The choice of "Ivalo" as the name highlights TUI's ongoing commitment to promoting Lapland as a premier international travel destination. Jonna Pietilä, Finavia's Vice President for Lapland Airports, expressed pride in the recognition, noting, "Lapland's record-breaking season and its growing appeal on the global stage are testament to the fruitful collaboration with partners like TUI."

Previously, TUI had named aircraft after other notable Lapland destinations, Kittilä in 2018 and Rovaniemi in 2022, each serving as flying ambassadors that showcase the unique beauty and allure of Lapland to the world.

Marco Ciomperlik, Chief Airline Officer of TUI Group, reflected on the significance of the "Ivalo" aircraft, highlighting its role in strengthening the bond between Finland and TUI. He emphasized the company's dedication to sustainability, stating, "Our new 'Ivalo' is not just a symbol of our partnership but also of our journey towards becoming Europe's most fuel-efficient airline. By focusing on more sustainable flying, we aim to preserve the natural landscapes of Europe and foster regional tourism that benefits local communities and young people's development."

The naming of "Ivalo" is more than a ceremonial gesture; it is a pledge by TUI to continue promoting the wonders of Lapland while advancing towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future in aviation.
