Travelers to Rent Nap Pods with Netflix at the Airport

News

Numerous airports worldwide will introduce Airpods, nap pods for travelers to rest between flights, by the end of this year.

Contorting around armrests will become a long-gone habit. Soon, travelers from all over the world will have an appropriate place to rest and even sleep at the airport. The solution? Airpods!

Airpods are some self-contained capsules and are specifically designed for those sleepy travelers waiting to board a plane or who are forced to wait a few hours between two flights. These pods have a futuristic design and look like drag racers. Inside, people can find a plush chair which can be easily turned into a bed for sleep-deprived travelers.

Besides beds, passengers will be able to charge their devices, as the capsules are equipped with power source sockets, to connect to a Wi-Fi network and even watch Netflix on a TV screen. The capsules also have enough storage space for luggage.

Additionally, the Airpods are designed to reduce airport noise, thus creating some sort of an “escape capsule” in the middle of a chaotic environment. But even so, you won’t be completely isolated. You can still stay connected to whatever is happening around the airport and you will even be able to set an alarm to announce you when it’s time to head to your gate and board the plane. People will also enjoy air conditioning and air purifiers inside the capsules.

According to a Skyscanner study, 36% of respondents mentioned that one of the things they would want to find in an airport would be sleeping pods and when they were asked whether or not they would pay for one if available, almost all of them answered “yes”.

Airpod capsules were designed and made in Slovenia by two businessmen after they confronted with this situation themselves.

“Airpod™ sleep pod was started based on personal experience while traveling – a number of hours sitting in an airport terminal waiting for a connecting flight. Our aim is to improve and make the travel experience comfortable and enjoyable each and every hour, whilst transiting,” the company said on their official website.

Worth mentioning is that these capsules are still in beta, but the company announces that Airpod will appear around various European airports and be available for the public to test them this fall, 2018. Travelers will be able to rent them for an hour. Afterwards, chances are they would appear throughout other international airports.

However, this is not the first time we see this idea put in practice. Other business ventures similar to Airpod can be seen at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (Jabbrrbox), Mosco Airport, (SleepBox), Helsinki Airport (GoSleep), and Las Vegas McCarren Airport (private bedrooms available for rent).
