Tourists Are Invited To Visit The Conservation Area in the Dubai Desert

Destinations & Tourism

Guests visiting the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) can now experience an immersive intro to the UAE's unique flora and wildlife.

The conservation specialists at the Reserve's DDCR have curated 5 unique sections of the Visitor Centre's exhibits:

The lobby - a spacious, open area that invites guests inside, where photographs of Arabian Oryx in their native environment are displayed on a giant wall and stretched over the ceiling. An information kiosk shows tourists where rare animals like the Arabian Fox have been found across the Reserve.

The cultural hall highlights the significant achievements by the DDCR, recognized as a successful model for habitat protection, controlled tourism, as well as education and scientific investigation.

The AV hall serves as a "small theatre," where guests can enjoy a short, beautifully-made feature film that provides an introduction to the Reserve.

The habitat hall dispels the myth that deserts are lifeless by showcasing the rich native flora and fauna of the DDCR through lifelike 3D-printed models, holographic exhibits, interactive stalls and gadgets which reproduce the songs of the many species of birds that live there.

A dome exhibit using state-of-the-art technology in the nocturnal hall presents an immersive layout of the nocturnal animal residents of the DDCR, giving visitors a fresh viewpoint on Dubai's nighttime.

Visitors may learn more about the displays at their own pace thanks to life-size hare replicas stationed around the Centre, which play pre-recorded audio descriptions. Printed footprints left by Oryxes help visitors find their way from room to room. Once visitors have seen the inside exhibits, they may go outside to try their hand at actual animal spotting or just take in the breathtaking vistas of the open desert below.

The DDCR Visitor Centre will first cater to school trips and tourists on safari who have booked via an authorized tour operator. The centre also welcomes walk-in guests, who may see the displays for a small cost ranging from AED 25 to AED 35.

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) is the first national park in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), covering an area of 225 square kilometres in an effort to preserve the emirate's distinctive desert ecosystem and wildlife. The Emirates Group has been working with the Government of Dubai to run and maintain the Reserve and its massive amenities since it was founded in 2002.

More than AED 28 million has been spent by the Emirates Group to protect the native flora and animals of the desert. As a result of DDCR's initiatives, the inland desert ecosystem is now home to over 560 species of plants, trees, birds, animals, reptiles, and arthropods, which is more than twice the initial 150 species that lived there before.
