Therapy dogs comfort passengers transiting Connecticut airport
Bradley Airport rolls out a therapy dog program with the occasion of this year’s winter holidays.
Holiday travel this year just got better with Bradley Airport introducing furry friends that will relax passengers who love dogs.
Trained canines from Bright Spot Therapy Dogs will transit the terminal and interact with the travelers and employees. Karyn Cordner with Raven, and Sally King with James will be the ones putting a smile on everyone’s face.
“They love this. The dogs took to this like ducks to water. They don’t mind the hustle and bustle of this. He’ll go right up to people here. Last week, somebody was petting him and I noticed they were crying. I asked what the matter was, and they said they were on their way to visit their niece who is dying. She said it was so good that she could pet the dog,” King explained.
The project was introduced as a result of the high demand for these therapy dogs, as people very much enjoy their presence here. Therefore Bright Spot Therapy Dogs and Connecticut Airport Authority signed a partnership allowing passengers to benefit an extra amenity when transiting the terminal.
“It’s amazing to me to see the reactions of the passengers. This is a very important program for us, especially now in the holiday period. I personally witness as I go through the terminal building passengers interacting with the dogs. It’s been a very positive reaction,” Kevin Dillon the CEO of the Connecticut Airport Authority added.
For the moment, travelers will find the dogs on duty on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m., but the schedule will soon be expanded on Sunday afternoons also.
