ITB Berlin this week will promote responsible tourism, sustainability and ecological travel approaches.

Astro and bicycle tourism, wildlife conservation and ecological traveling will be in the center of attention at the world’s biggest travel event hosted in Berlin.

From March 8 until March 12, key industry players and experts will focus on hot topics, such as: sustainability and socially responsible travel, since the UN World Tourism Organisation has appointed 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

Botswana and the fast emerging segment of astro-tourism in the country will be the central piece of this year’s presentations. Visitors aiming to enjoy the beauty of the stars and underline the risks of pollution are expected to take part at ITB Berlin’s sessions on responsible traveling.

According to estimations, 60 per cent of Europeans and 80 per cent of North Americans are currently unable to spot the Milky Way due to pollution and intensive artificial lightening. As a result, biology and astronomy experts will speak to the participants about the vital importance of the night and day succession for human health and global biodiversity.

Other niches, such as bicycle and wildlife tourism have also gained popularity over the past years, so the two booming sectors will benefit special attention from the organizers. Top countries promoting wildlife tourism this year will be the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.
