The Tourism Authority of Thailand is promoting an array of "Amazing Organic Trip" ideas, with a focus on healthy gourmet experiences and organic farming activities as well as initiatives to reduce carbon footprint. This aligns with the TAT's ongoing mission to promote and develop sustainable tourism and high-value tourism in Thailand.
TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn mentioned: "The Amazing Organic Trip project forms part of our plan to integrate sustainable tourism and underline the importance of travel responsibly in the traveller's journey through community-based tourism. It also reflects our strategy to promote organic tourism and strengthen linkages between agriculture and tourism which are two of Thailand's bedrock economic pillars."
The 'Amazing Organic Trips' were first launched in Chiang Mai and Phuket. They are a result of a partnership with the TAT and its partners - Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association, Thai Organic Consumer Association, SiamRise Travel and FIND FOLK.
The Amazing Organic Trip in Chiang Mai highlights the Mae Tha Community, which has been a model community for organic farming since three generations. The trip will also include cooking classes that teach healthy recipes using locally-sourced ingredients. This includes the gourmet 'Chef’s Table with PM2.5 Reduction menu', which includes grilled local vegetables with fish, fish-based chili paste, spicy local vegetable salad, deep-fried organic baby corn and mixed vegetables soup.
The Amazing Organic Trip in Phuket is centered around Ban Bang Rong Community, Mai Khao Community, and Phuket's Old Town. The Amazing Organic trip in Phuket focuses on Ban Bang Rong community, Mai Khao Community and Phuket's Old Town.
The carbon-neutral tour of Phuket's Old Town includes cooking classes and local culinary experiences. The 'Community Economic Recovery Menu' features a variety of locally sourced foods, including sashimi, grilled sea cicadas, coconut milk curries with Dollfus octopus and deep-fried 'Linharn herb'.
"Through organic trips in Chiang Mai and Phuket, tourists can play a part in helping reduce personal carbon footprint. For example, a walking tour of Phuket's Old Town is considered a carbon-neutral tourism activity. And, by opting to enjoy food that is based on organic products and uses no chemicals in the production process or organic farming, or food that uses locally produced ingredients, tourists can help reduce greenhouse gasses from the transportation and importation of ingredients," Mr. Yuthasak said.
