Tarom suspends flights to Dubai, Nice, Geneva and Amman

Tarom suspends direct flights to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Nice (France), Geneva (Switzerland) and Amman (Jordan) for the 2016-2017 winter schedule, both for economic reasons, but also due to the withdrawal of the use of the two Airbus A310 aircraft, sources of Tarom Company declared.
"The operation of such routes could be resumed in the summer of 2017. Currently the main focus is the purchase of two new aircraft with a capacity of 160-190 seats that will come into operation in the summer," said a source from the company quoted by the local press. Tarom representatives confirmed to the local press that tourists can no longer book flights to these destinations for flights that will be operated by November. The national company has been facing financial difficulties for years and a solution for improving it would rather be the launch of direct flights to new destinations important for their customers, experts say.
Dubai is a destination requested in winter by many tourists given that the summer temperatures in the UAE can go up to 50 degrees Celsius. Last month there were several incidents of TAROM, especially due to technical failure. Last Airbus A310 from the fleet of Tarom national air carrier named Transylvania, made its last flight on Saturday, on the Madrid-Bucharest route. On September 12nd this year was withdrawn from service another Airbus A310, bought in 1992.
Tarom has a fleet of 21 aircrafts from three different brands, Airbus, ATR and Boeing, with an average age of over 15 years, a situation which significantly increases the cost of maintenance and operation. Representatives of the air carrier and Romanian Transport Minister, Sorin Buse, recently had a meeting with representatives of the French manufacturer ATR, after which the manufacturer will send "soon" a lease offer for two new generation aircraft, ATR 72-600.
