Swedish Defence Minister to help Ukraine
"I have today given the Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist the task of immediately preparing a decision so that we, from the Swedish side, can support Ukraine with further ways to strengthen their resilience," Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson declared for the reporters.
Hultqvist and his Minister will tackle measures to increase Ukraine's means to resist the Russian current military aggression.
Mine-removal and healthcare are the main Sweden competences. Nevertheless, the country’s regulations do not allow the export of weapons to war zones, with very few exceptions.
Officials did not specify yet what kind of military support they will provide. Further details about the way that Sweden will be able to help Ukraine are still to be disclosed in the near future.
The announcement comes after Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, has repeatedly asked for military help from the EU states. UK and other European countries have only imposed sanctions on Russia so far, while declaring that they will not send troops in Ukraine.
