Strong Reinforcements around the Esplanade of the Mosques
Israel will carry out reinforcements around the Esplanade of the Mosques in the old city of Jerusalem on the days of Passover, in order to prevent any disorder, announced the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Thursday, reports AFP.
Passover will be celebrated starting Friday, 22nd of April. During this festival, which lasts a week, the traditional prayer, the so-called 'blessing of the priests', which gathers every year thousands of believers, will be held at the Wailing Wall, the most sacred place of Judaism, located at the foot of the Temple Mount, the third holiest place in Islam after Mecca and Medina.
The wave of violence that shakes the Palestinian territories, Jerusalem and Israel, began in the autumn, at the Hebrew celebration of the New Year. Palestinians and Israeli Arabs have accused the Israeli authorities that they want to take control of the Esplanade of the Mosques and change the status quo in how it is managed this holy place.
Benjamin Netanyahu reassured that he has no intention to change the status quo, which allows Jewish presence on the Esplanade of the Mosques, but forbids them to pray.
More, Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned that there is a significant reduction in the number of Palestinian attacks against Israelis, AFP notes.
