St. Vincent expects a 44 percent surge in cruise ship visitors
One of the biggest cruise ships that can carry up to 5,430 people is scheduled to arrive at Port Kingstown on December 16th, 2022.
Since additional cars would be required to carry visitors, the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Carlos James, informed that this might cause a disturbance in the public transit system. James also stated that "public transportation is likely to be affected; all of the major transportation systems will be disrupted; it is going to be a challenge, and I want to indicate that very early.”
The Minister said that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the most popular places for cruise tourism, notwithstanding the difficulties associated with the present port size.
In addition to the rise in cruise ship arrivals, the number of weekly foreign flights out of Argyle International Airport is expected to increase beginning on December 20th, 2022. The Minister of Tourism also announced that starting March 2023, American Airlines would increase its frequency of flights to daily and Air Canada will increase its frequency of weekly flights to three.
James highlighted that while the number of flights has not risen, Virgin Atlantic now has access to the bigger 787-9 Dreamliner.
Direct trips to St. Vincent and the Grenadines are currently available from Toronto, Miami, New York and London.
