Italian authorities have intensified during Thursday the security measures in all the Italian ports in order to prevent a possible terrorist attack, reports the local newspaper La Repubblica.

The level of safety in all the Italian ports where they make a stopover passenger ships and cruise is past 2 (of 3) to deal with the risk of a possible terrorist action. All persons and vehicles that will board the ferry will undergo strict checks.

Italian security services have not provided details about the circumstances in which the decision to intensify security measures was made. Commander, Admiral Vincenzo Melone declared that: “You have to these designated authorities of the elevation of the level of Security to 2 for the port installations intended for cruise traffic and passengers. The provisions to be immediately notified to the Pfso and Pso concerned for the implementation of the corresponding measures of security”.

In addition to the Port Authorities, the note was transmitted to all the institutional bodies in charge of the security, the Presidency of the Council of the ministries of Foreign affairs, Interior and Defense, up to the Third Department of the State of the Army, which deals specifically with the operational planning of the national defense and the shipping companies.

The Western Europe is confronting a difficult summer, with many countries adopting special security measures, especially after the Nice attack last month in which more than 80 people were killed by a delivery truck. Italy increased border controls, while Rome asked for intensive security checks on Colosseum and Vatican after a French priest was murdered in his church.
