SpaceX rocket just exploded on Launch Pad at Cape Canaveral

News

Only two days before its official launch, a SpaceX rocket exploded during a launch pad routine test at Cape Canaveral, Florida

According to NBC News, no injuries were reported so far. Moreover, according to the Emergency Management Office, there is no threat to the inhabitants of the surrounding areas.

Following the explosion, Brevard County Emergency Management Director Kimberly Prosser declared that “there are no hazards to the general public. We're monitoring the situation, but there have been no requests for assistance."

The explosion took place this morning at around 9:15 a.m. local time. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, set to launch on September 3rd, was supposed to deliver a Spacecom communications satellite to orbit (Facebook’s $95 million first satellite). It appears that the rocket exploded while the team was performing a few routine tests firing on the launch pad in Cape Canaveral.

So far, SpaceX representatives have not yet released a statement or official response on the explosion.
