Service Dog Gives Birth to 8 Puppies at Tampa Airport
Ellie, a yellow Labrador, was traveling with her owners and another service dog when she suddenly started experiencing what seemed to be labor. They were all heading to a flight to Philadelphia.
As an airport spokesperson reported, the owner was aware that Ellie was pregnant; however, she was did not know the exact date the puppies were due.
As soon as she realized what was happening, the owner asked for the staff’s help. People soon gathered around Ellie and helped her through this one-of-a-kind experience, making sure that the puppies are okay despite the not so usual birthplace.
The first seven puppies were all males and were easily delivered. The eighth puppy, a female, was delivered with the help of Tampa Fire Rescue’s medical team, who stepped up to the job and did everything they could to make this experience as easy as possible for Ellie.
Nugget, the other service dog and the father of the puppies stood close by during the delivery, waiting patiently.
Thankfully, Ellie and the pups are all healthy and recovering well. As expected, the event drew a big crowd at the gate, with everyone cheering for the arrival of each puppy, creating a unique atmosphere that will definitely be remembered by many.
However, the family missed their flight and had to make new travel arrangements, as the newborn puppies are too young to fly. Even so, it is a small inconvenience given the fact that they now are a large, beautiful family.
