SACBO Announces Expansion of Passenger Terminal at Bergamo Airport

SACBO unveils a major expansion plan for the passenger terminal at Bergamo Airport, enhancing check-in areas, security checks, and extra-Schengen gates with a €41 million investment.

 

SACBO, the management company of Bergamo Airport, has officially launched an ambitious expansion project for its passenger terminal, aimed at significantly enhancing the travel experience for its passengers. During a recent ceremony, the company detailed the scope of the project, which focuses on expanding the departure area, including a new check-in hall, state-of-the-art security equipment, and expanded facilities for extra-Schengen flights.

The expansion will introduce a new check-in area by spring 2025, equipped with 22 additional desks to streamline the acceptance operations. The project is set to be fully completed by November 2025, with SACBO investing €41 million from its own financial resources. This investment underscores SACBO's commitment to improving infrastructure and passenger services at Bergamo Airport.

The ground floor of the terminal will be expanded by 3,720 square meters, making room for the enlarged check-in area and an upgraded Baggage Handling System (BHS) that will include advanced radiogenic controls for checked luggage. The first floor will see an addition of 7,400 square meters dedicated to security checks and passenger conveniences. This area will feature 14 new Type C3 security lanes, which allow passengers to keep electronics and liquids inside their carry-on bags during security screening, streamlining the process and enhancing passenger throughput.

Additionally, the expansion will include a significantly larger duty-free shopping area, expanding from 600 square meters to 1,600 square meters, and more spacious boarding areas for extra-Schengen flights. This development not only aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the airport but also to significantly improve the overall passenger experience by offering more amenities and smoother transitions through the airport.

SACBO's expansion of Bergamo Airport is a strategic move to accommodate growing passenger numbers and to reinforce the airport's role as a key aviation hub in the region. This extensive modernization will ensure that Bergamo Airport continues to meet the needs of international travelers with increased comfort and efficiency.
