Russia and Egypt connected again after a 2 years commercial flights break

As authorized by President Vladimir Putin, commercial flights between Egypt and Russia will become operational again.

 

The decision came directly from the Russian President and it is expected to persuade the British government to also change their policy on commercial fights to the country in northeast Africa, as currently all European countries except UK allow flights to Egypt.

“We are very pleased that flights between Egypt and Russia will now resume, as it’s a clear sign of the confidence that the Russian government has in the aviation and airport security standards that Egypt has introduced. We hope this will encourage flights back to Sharm el-Sheikh from the UK so that travellers can return to the destination,” declared Amr El-Ezabi from the Egyptian State Tourist Authority.

Egypt’s situation is due to crash of Russian plane back in 2015, immediately after takeoff from an Egyptian airport. Consequently, Russia has suspended all flights to this destination, on an indefinite period, underlining that the airports in the area experience significant security issues.

Since then, the number of visitors to Sharm el-Sheikh resorts has considerably dropped. Once a favorite holiday destination for Britons, Egypt is now struggling with offering appealing attractions for Europeans by focusing on other hot spots, such as Hurghada and the Red Sea Bays.

Moreover, officials in Egypt have invested impressive amounts in order to upgrade airport security standard: £20 million were spent for safety, as the project was implemented with the help an aviation security firm based in the UK.

Starting February, EgyptAir will operate commercial flights between Cairo and Moscow. As announced by the minister of tourism, Mohamed Rashed, the country aims to gain back its normal number of visitors by the end of this year.
